Dewfresh blames Govan Mbeki municipality
Company says council neglects maintenance on systems.
LEANDRA – Residents are up in arms over the overflowing milk in their streets caused by sewage pipes that burst.
According to the Strydom family who stays in East Street, the problem has been existing for quite some time.
Another resident said: “The municipality should fix these pipes once and for all because they always break and they take their time to fix them.”
Residents said at times the milk flows so heavy that it flows into their yards.
The milk stinks and there are always flies.
While the Ridge Times was on the scene, young children were playing in the milk.
The Ridge Times visited the Dewfresh factory from where the milk was overflowing and Mr Hugh Becker of the Dewfresh management, said it is not their fault.
He said their drainage system is properly maintained and blamed the municipality of not maintaining their drainage systems.
Mr Henry Masango, spokesman of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said technicians will be dispatched to the site to investigate and will appropriate actions.
