Pupils excel in drama competion

Ms Ntombifuthi Macheke, Public and Regulatory Affairs Sasol Chemical Operations, commended the talent of the pupils who were competing in the Caer School Drama Competition.

SECUNDA – Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School walked away with R7 500 for their drama, The Siren, in the senior phase category of the Caer School Drama Competition.

Kusalethu Comprehensive School came second with their drama about teenage pregnancy, winning R5 000 and again took the third position, winning R2 500, for their drama about saying no to drugs and substance abuse.

In the foundation phase category, Zamakuhle Primary School came first for their drama about bullying and T.P. Stratten Primary School came second with their drama, Stop, Drop and Roll.

The competition was aimed at creating awareness about social ills that pupils are faced with in the society.

The competition had two categories, namely the foundation phase for Grade R to Grade 5 pupils, and the senior phase from Grade 6 to Grade 10.

The 12 competing schools were given script topics, namely bullying, fire marshal, road safety, teenage pregnancy, say no to drugs and substance abuse, The Siren, learn not to burn, Stop Drop and Roll.

The teachers taught the pupils with the help of Izigi Performing Arts.

“Great talent was seen at this completion.

“Thanks to Caer’s stakeholder Megabus for transport and to Sasol for sponsoring the programme.

“This programme would not have been possible without the cooperation from the Department of Education.”
