Operation Fiela currently underway

The police, as well as the South African Defence Force, raided households and shops on 28 May.

Members of the South African Police and the South African Defence Force raided flats, households and tuck shops on 28 May.

In light of the recent xenophobic attacks, they were looking for illegal substances and checking if immigrants have the relevant documentation permitting them to be in the country.

They began the raid at one of the flats in Standerton and proceeded to Sakhile.

According to a resident, each flat was searched in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The law enforcers were also stopping some people on the streets and conducted a search.

They also looked for stolen property, including vehicles.
