Hostel dwellers seek sanctuary

Hostel dwellers air their frustrations.

Hostel dwellers’ dreams of moving to Ext 8 have been shattered.

They claimed they were recently told during a community meeting that only seven of them qualify for the RDP houses in Ext 8.

The dwellers were temporary relocated and applied for RDP houses after they learnt that they will have to pay a rental fee at the new residential units, built by the Department of Human Settlements in Sakhile.

About 25 families were moved to the temporary accommodations.

The rest of them do not know where to go because they also can not afford to pay the monthly rent.

The rent ranges between R900 and R1 300 and most of them are unemployed.
