Mothers and daughters spend time together at Laerskool Kinross

Former pupil was guest speaker at function.

Mothers and daughters came together at Laerskool Kinross on Saturday, 6 June for morning tea.

A former pupil, Busi Zwane, was a guest speaker.

She said she has already achieved a lot after one of the pupils wrote that Busi is her role model.

“At my age I am surprised that someone sees me as a role model,” said Busi, a Grade 12 pupil at Hoërskool Oosterland.

She said she misses the school, especially teacher Alida Swartz, her Grade 3 teacher who always treated Busi and her two brothers like her own children.

Lindiwe Sebolela, a pupil, said she was inspired by Busi’s speech.

Pupils also enjoyed planting trees and flowers in remembrance of their former teachers who had died.

Ms Christelle van den Berg said she misses her former pupils when she looked at the photos against the walls of the dining hall.

“Busi used to excel in everything she did and I really miss her,” said Ms Van den Berg.

Ms Ntombi Mlangeni, a mother of a pupil, said they have enjoyed the event and were also touched by Busi’s speech.
