Pupils compete to fight crime
Pupils from various schools in eMzinoni took part in Crime Prevention Competition.
The Department of Social Development, Bethal and eMzinoni Police, Changer Guluva Arts and the development programme, as well as other stakeholders held a crime schools competition at AD Nkosi Secondary School recently.
Ms Mbali Thabethe, social worker: Bethal Social Development, said the aim was to involve pupils in the fight against crime.
Pupils had to conduct researches, visit crime hotspots and compile a report to present at the competition.
During the presentation, pupils were given a chance to finish their presentations and used different methods for their presentations.
They also defined the various types of crime and came up with the causes and preventative measures.
“The presentations were brilliant.
“They all showed commitment towards the competition and their presentations were up to standard.
“Teachers and pupils worked together to impress the judges,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, communication officer of the Bethal Police Station and the programme director of the day.
The competition consisted of the primary and secondary school categories.
In the primary category, Thandanani Primary School won, followed by Ikhwezi Primary School and Langelihle Primary School.
Ikhethelo Secondary School was first in the secondary category, followed by AD Nkosi Secondary School and Young Harvest Christian School.
Judges also had to choose the best 23 presenters, as well as the outstanding presenter.
Pupils received gold medals and all participants received certificates.
Ms Tanya Mans, Bethal CPF member, said it was not easy for the judges to choose the winners.
“All pupils performed exceptionally well and the teachers should be proud of them.”
She said it was an “awesome” day and thanked the support and sponsorships of various companies and organisations, such as Adiels Carriers that did the catering, as well as United Motors for the trophies and gold medals, Social Development, the police, the CPF and Changer Guluva.
