Police warn against fires
Residents are urged to be safe during fire season.
The Sakhile Police requested the community to avoid starting fires during this season.
They urged residents to switch off electrical appliances after using it.
An increasing number of houses get burnt down during winter and people lose valuables, some even lose their lives.
They also requested the community to ensure that candles are put out before going to sleep.
The police reminded residents to look after their children, ensuring that boiling water or fire is out of their reach because children are too often the victims.
The Lekwa Fire Protection Association has issued these fire warnings:
1. Blue – Insignificant, the fire danger is low that no precaution is needed.
2. Green – Low, fires including prescribed burns may be allowed in the open air on the condition that the persons making the fire take reasonable precautions against the fire spreading.
3. Yellow – Moderate, the fire danger is such that no fires may be allowed in open air except those that are authorised by Chief Fire Officer of the local fire service and those in designated fireplaces; authorised fire may include prescribed burns.
4. Orange – High, the fire danger such that no fires may be allowed under any circumstances in open air.
5. Red – Extremely high, the fire dangers such that no fires may be allowed under any circumstances in open air and special emergency fire preparedness measures must be invoked.
