Police fire rubber bullets at eMba protesters

Protesters say they will go to all the economical hubs in the area, such as Sasol, Skyhill and Graceland.

Five protesters sustained injuries when the police fired rubber bullets at them in Extension 12.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, polie spokesman, said they had to fire rubber bullets to stop protesters from breaking the law.

He said they were burning tyres and blocked the road.

“They were also disturbing other road users.

“We had to act.”

eMBALENHLE – Large numbers of residents who were on their way to work, returned home after protesters blocked all the main roads to the area.

Singing revolutionary songs, the protesters were burning tyres and have mobilised themselves to monitor all movement on the roads.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said no violence has been reported yet and that the police are doing patrols.

According to Ridge Times sources, people are protesting against unemployment in the area and will submit a memorandum and CVs of the unemployed.

They said they will also go to all the economical hubs in the area, such as Sasol, Skyhill, Graceland and other companies to voice their outrage.
