Brutal attacks on the rise

A number of brutal attacks have been reported to the police recently.
The gruesome nature of these attacks has raised eyebrows in the community.
A man recently hacked his ex-girlfriend to death with an axe.
This incident occurred in Rooikoppen and was reported to the Sakhile Police.
The police managed to apprehend the suspect the same day.
Another attack happened between Standerton and Perdekop.
A man was assaulted with a machete.
The victim survived the attack.
The Perdekop Police are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made.
These are not the only assault cases with intend to inflict grievous bodily harm, that were reported to the police.
Most people get robbed and stabbed in Sakhile.
According to Sgt George Dhlamini, communications officer at Sakhile Police, alcohol abuse contributes to these attacks.
“Most of the attacks happen in taverns, when people are drunk and out of control,” he said
He said there are lot of dark places in the township, which are the breeding ground for thieves.
“Thieves target people walking in those areas and rob and assault them.”
He said assault cases are mostly reported over the weekends.
“Some men who cannot provide for their families, resort to violence, so that the woman cannot confront them about it, he added.
Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer at Standerton Police, agreed that most of these case are reported during the weekend.
“Alcohol abuse is a major factor that leads to brutal attacks,” he said.
According to Sgt Dhlamini, they engage the community about this during campaigns.
“We are working on this issue but we still need to do more,” he concluded.
