Rail company donates to local school

Nothando Mdaka said they are also thankful to Transnet women for the donations and that they love them.

Ermelo Transnet women in Engineering led by Sabelo Kananda took their women’s outreach programme to Umsebe Primary School in Wesselton, Ermelo where they distributed toiletries to the learners.

Girl child learners received sanitary pads, roll-on and soap and for the boys it was roll-on, shoe polish and a soap. According to the women, they saw the need for this initiative as many girl learners miss a lot of important school days due to menstruation as many of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds and parents cannot afford sanitary towels for them.

Matilda Ndaba said as a mother herself, this is very close to her heart as she understands the frustration these young girls go through.

Beverly Matsike, whose brain child this is, said she was happy that it has come true and proud to be part of it.

Grade 7 teacher and member of the school base support team Ms Lindi Buthelezi, said they are happy for this initiative as many girls abscond school during their menstruation days. She also said they are also happy that the young boys who are entering teenage stage were also catered for as many of them start giving off bad body odour.

On behalf of the children grade 7B Gooness Malimande said these pads will help them a lot as some of them are from poor background.

Nothando Mdaka said they are also thankful to Transnet women for the donations and that they love them.
