Kinross SAPS visits Matla Coal Mine
Station Commander feels honoured to be given opportunity to see where coal comes from.
KINROSS – Women from Kinross Police Station visited Matla Coal Mine to get exposure of what other women do in their workplace.
They were accompanied by men who also wanted to get the experience of underground work.
Kinross Police spokesperson, Sgt Matselane Nhlapo, said it was a great experience seeing what other women do in a different environment which was previously perceived as a man’s environment.
She further mentioned that when mine workers are underground, you will no longer be able to identify them because they are all black of coal.
“You will only see their teeth,” said Sgt Matlala.
Sgt Nhlapo said women are given opportunities in this country to do any work they want and it is for them to use it wisely and pave the way for the coming generations of women.
The SAPS team were impressed to see that women are working hard and some of them are even in higher positions.
Kinross Station Commander, Capt Matlala, said he felt honoured to be given the opportunity to see where the coal comes from and he also thanked the management of Matla Coal for welcoming them with warm hands.
