Sboniso’s laptop finally arrives
Siboniso was one of the 67 000 children across Europe and Africa who participated in the programme where they learned about avian conservation across flyways, as they engaged in Spring Alive migration themed activities.

After his success in the African Art Competition where Siboniso Dhlamini of Chrissie Laerskool came third in the creative side of the competition with the theme “Why I like the Spring Alive birds” he was promised a laptop.
During the prize-giving and celebrations of Grass-and Wetlands at Chrissiesmeer in February, Siboniso and his mother were overwhelmed when the
HOD of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), Ms P.S. Xulu, announced that as a department, they were donating a laptop to Siboniso to make it easier for him to do his research.
Siboniso finally received the laptop last Friday when it was delivered to him by the department at his school, much to the delight of his mother and school principal, Ms Ann Roux.
Ms Roux said although it was a long wait, it was worth it. She also said Siboniso’s achievement would serve as motivation for other learners to enter the competition.
Tania Henning from DARDLEA said they were pleased to have delivered on their promise.
David Rathbone, chairman of the Mototoland Ecotourism representing BirdLife SA, emphasised that BirdLife SA is not only about birding itself, but focused on education, education projects involving community upliftment and understanding of nature in general.
