Cellphone giant supports shoe initiative

This was a dream come true and a beginning of more campaigns to help the community.

The Highvelder Cares and the Top 20 campaigns received a much needed boost for their shoes initiatives when cellphone giant Vodacom donated 110 pairs of shoes last Wednesday.

The shoes were distributed to New Ermelo Primary School (49 pairs), Camden Combined Secondary (32 pairs) and Siyazi Primary School in Breyten (29 pairs).
This was as a result of the Highvelder writing to Vodacom for a donation towards the campaign and later teeming up with the Top 20 team who had also collected donations from various local businesses to assist needy learners identified by the teachers.

The principals from the respective schools, Mr Vusi Msibi, Mr Sipho Sihlali and Ms Fikile Msibi, expressed their gratitude for the donations, saying they would go a long way in assisting their learners.
Vodacom Mpumalanga said they were pleased to be part of the campaign to help underprivileged school pupils. The group chief officer of corporate affairs, Ms Maya Makanjee, said supporting this initiative was very important to them as education is important to their company.

“If we can show our support and make a difference by keeping pupils warm, then it’s definitely a red-letter initiative for us,” she said.

In the middle row behind the children who received shoes are Kuhle Mpofu (Top 20), Ayanda Mathebula and Matshediso Mohlabane (Vodacom) and in the back row are Raputla Shabangu (Top 20) and Mr Vusi Msibi (principal of New Ermelo Primary School) during the shoes handover.
