Business up in arms over new smart meters
The municipality wants to install the meters in every household in Lekwa.
Local businessmen allege their electricity bills are higher since the Lekwa Municipality installed smart meters.
According to them they are paying way more than they used to pay.
They acknowledge however that the installation of smart meters is a good idea to prevent electricity theft.
A local business man, who has a smart meter installed in his business, said he is spending a lot on electricity.
He said if this continues, he might have to close down his shop and the employees will be left without jobs.
According to him the people, who installed the meters, are the only ones with access to it.
