The mayors’ curse
The first democratically elected mayor, Mr Josias Moloi, was removed from office after the community raised concerns about his leadership.
There has been an ongoing trend at the Lekwa Municipality with all the mayors failing to complete their terms post 1994.

They have failed to complete their term because of different reasons.
The first democratically elected mayor, Mr Josias Moloi, was removed from office after the community raised concerns about his leadership.
According to the community, Mr Matthews Phosa, Mpumalanga premier at the time, announced that he will be recalled during a community meeting at the Sakhile Stadium.
Mr Moloi has since retired and still lives in Sakhile with his family.
