Firearm found in lunch box

One suspect still on parole.

KINROSS – The local police found three unlicensed firearms during patrols on the N17 highway between Kinross Sasol Garage and the Leandra toll gate recently.

The two suspects, apparently from Gauteng, were travelling in a taxi from Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal towards Gauteng when Const Tumelo Malope and Const Ndishavhelafhi Makhado stopped the taxi to search it.

One man was in possession of two unlicensed firearms and the other one had an unlicensed firearm hidden under food inside a lunch box.

Sgt Matselane Nhlapo from Kinross Police Station confirmed that two men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and 27 live ammunition.

“They have previously been charged with serious criminal conduct and one is still on parole.

“We applaud the two constables for a job well done,” said Sgt Nhlapo.
