LEANDRA – Parents and teachers of Laerskool Leandra were excited about Ciara Eden Meyer’s achievements at a mathematics competition.
Ciara, a Grade 7 pupil, was in the top 30 mathematics achievers at a competition hosted by the SA Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, in collaboration with the Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysersunie.
The competition was national and all schools were invited to participate.
Grade 7 mathematics teacher Ms Louisa Swanepoel, said Ciara is a hard working girl who always does her work and asks questions if she does not understand.
“If I give them work to do, she reasons very well and it is a privilege to get a pupil like her,” said Ms Swanepoel.
Ciara does not only excel in mathematics, but also in all her subjects because she always comes in first position every year in her class.
Ciara also managed to participate in Maths is Fun at the University of the North West where she ended in the top 5.
“I am very happy that I entered and I never thought I would make it this far,” said the excited Ciara who is also the Editor of the school newspaper called Facebook op Papier.
“I would like to thank my teacher for all her efforts, because if it was not for her, I would not have made it to the top five.
“I am planning to go to Hoërskool Oosterland next year and after matric I am considering to study something which includes psychology, because I love working with children,” said Ciara.
