Famsa holiday programme empowers children

The three day programme held at the eMbalenhle Sasol Recreation Club left children excited about and rejuvenated for the next school term.

eMBALENHLE – About 120 children from Leandra and eMbalenhle were equipped with life skills during the Sasol and Family and Marriage Society of South Africa’s (Famsa) Highveld Ridge Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Joint Holiday Programme.

The three day programme held at the eMbalenhle Sasol Recreation Club left children excited about and rejuvenated for the next school term.

The younger ones were taught various life skills through a puppet show on child abuse, colouring and writing essays.

Famsa facilitated a workshop about emotional intelligence for the older children, which included topics on self esteem, decision making, values and peer pressure.

They also had a debate about whether cell phones and other social devices should be allowed in schools.

Ms Cathrine Magodi, social auxiliary worker, said Famsa’s objective to keep children safe and occupied with fun educational activities during school holidays, has brought about positive reactions from the kids.

She thanked Albany for donating bread, Dr Gopal Family and Roots Butchery for their donation and support.
