Cyclists receive a warm welcome at Steers

Dads’ Charity Cycling Challenge cyclists ride 670km to raise funds for charity organisations.

KINROSS – A group of cyclists who were cycling from Johannesburg to Durban over five days, covering a distance of 670km to raise money for charity, took a breather at Steers Kinross at the Sasol N17 Plaza.

The Dads’ Charity Cycle Challenge began in 2005 when a group of fun loving, yet concerned dads got together and decided to make a difference in the lives of others, raising much needed funds but at the same time, enjoying themselves and working on leading a healthier lifestyle.

Wayne Baker, chairman of the challenge, said since the inception, the group has raised over R4-m in aid of various charities that they support.

“Our aim is to top the R4.5-m mark this year, but it cannot be done without the support of concerned businesses and individuals,” said Baker.

The cyclists support charities such as the Gauteng Down Syndrome Association, the Fulton School for the Deaf, the Sunflower Fund, Qhubeka and many more, and said they were impressed with the way they were welcomed by the Steers staff.

Among the cyclers was the 77-year-old Clive Stokoe.

Ms Amanda Kleynhans, manager of Steers Kinross, said they were privileged to host the cyclists.

“I wish them a safe journey as they continue to Durban and would also like to thank my staff for entertaining the cyclists and for making sure they were well served,” said Ms Kleynhans.
