Confrontation between Sanco and smart meter technicians break out

The owner of the building said he did not give them permission to install the smart meter.

A local business was left without electricity after the smart meter technicians disconnected electricity supply on 28 October.

According to the service provider that is installing the meters, the Lekwa Municipality instructed them to install the meter.

However, the owner of the building said he did not give them permission to install it.

Two South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) members stopped the technicians from installing the meter.

As a result the service provider called the police to intervene because they did not feel safe.

The business could not provide food to their customers during lunch.

They are also worried that the food could get spoiled if the matter is not dealt with immediately.
