Mayor hires bodyguard

“The council did not take a resolution about this,” Mr Gumede said.

Mr Linda Dhlamini, Lekwa mayor, recently became a victim of robbery at a guesthouse in Gauteng.

The mayoral vehicle was stolen in the incident, but later recovered.

His bodyguard, Mr Steve Nhlapo, was not with him when the incident occurred.

Mr Nhlapo serves as a driver as well because the mayor does not have a driver.

According to Mr Sipho Gumede, PAC councillor, Mr Dhlamini is the first mayor of all the democratically elected mayors to have a bodyguard.

“The council did not take a resolution about this,” Mr Gumede said.
