Police ask for community’s assistance
The community came out in their numbers and voiced their concerns about crime.
The Sakhile Police had an imbizo as part of their outreach programme at Thandeka Primary School on 10 November.
According to Sgt George Dhlamini, communications officer of the Sakhile Police, the event was held because of the increase in assault and housebreaking cases in the area.
Sgt Dhlamini said they want to partner with community in fighting crime and empower them as well.
He also said a number of domestic violence cases were reported in the area.
According to him, most assault cases with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm result in death.
“We thought that it will be best to engage the residents and get their views.”
The community came out in their numbers and voiced their concerns.
According to them, they do not feel safe anymore where people are often robbed and attacked.
They raised misgivings about taverns that operate throughout the whole night.
“The police must keep a close eye on taverns because that is where most crimes occur during weekends,”a resident said.
The police vowed their determination to fight crime, but said they needed the community’s assistance.
They urged parents not to turn a blind eye when their children are involved in criminal activities and also requested the community to form patrol groups.
