Mr Benzi Soko, chief of staff in the office of the Executive Mayor, said the water system that is supplying this municipality is stable as per a report received from Rand Water.

“Should the municipality be under strain, Rand Water will inform us to establish the best possible solution to contain the situation.

“The municipality urges residents to use water sparingly to avoid the situation experienced by other parts of South Africa.”

Below is some water saving tips from the municipality:

· Take shorter showers (five minutes or less is best).

· Fill the sink and turn off the tap while washing pots and dishes.

· Use a broom despite a hose pipe to clean driveways and walkways.

· Every drop counts, close the tap completely after use.

· Water your garden early or late in the day to save water.

· Use a glass for drinking water.

· Reuse washing water for gardening, cleaning of floors and washing.

· Wash only full loads of clothes in the washing machine.

Save water and report leaks for repair to the Govan Mbeki Municipal Call Centre at 0800 6000 01/2/3/4.
