Members of opposition parties have raised concerns about recent incidences within the Lekwa Municipality that they were not aware of.
According to them, Mr Linda Dhlamini, mayor, makes decisions without any council resolutions.
There are allegations that the vehicle used by the previous mayor, Ms Caroline Morajane, was sold and a new black BMW X5 was bought for the current mayor.
Mr Sipho Gumede, PAC councilor, was also uninformed regarding mayoral cars.
Mr Pierre Schnetler, DA councilor, echoed the same sentiments, saying it was not discussed in council meetings.
The black BMW X5 was stolen in Gauteng when the mayor was attending the ANC National General Council (NGC).
According to Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, the car was later recovered.
After this incident the mayor has been travelling in a white Mercedes Benz and the black BMW X5 is nowhere to be seen.
Mr Tshabalala said the issue of the stolen vehicle is handled by the insurance company.
“This was not brought to council’s attention and we have raised questions about the mayoral vehicles and did not receive any response,” Mr Gumede said.
He also said no one can decide on their own what to do with municipals assets and any disposal of municipal property should go through the council.
“A bodyguard was hired for the mayor and we were not consulted.”
According to him, the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) must do an assessment of the person and report about the findings if any councilor needs a bodyguard.
