Thieves steal R49 000 at licence department
Thieves broke into the Licence Department in Walter Sisulu Drive twice in one weekend.
They first broke into the building on Friday 4 December and stole R49 000 from the safe after gaining entry through the back door and making their way to the safe.
The thieves also broke other office doors inside the building.
They broke the safe and took all the money inside.
The employees discovered the break-in on Saturday 5 December and informed the Standerton Police.
The thieves broke in again on Sunday 6 December and stole two television screens and a laptop in one of the offices.
One television screen was used to direct the public to which counter to go for assistance and the other was for updates such as dates for bookings.
The thieves came through the roof and tampered with the alarm system.
The employees found the main door wide open upon arrival on Monday 7 December.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, no suspects have been arrested.
He said two cases of business burglary were opened.
