Follow-up: G4S shoots back, kills robber

The other robbers got away

BETHAL – A robber was shot dead during an armed robbery on Sunday, 13 December at the Sasol Garage in Vuyile Mini Street.

According to the police six robbers approached G4S personnel while they were uploading collected money.

The robbers stole the money and began to fire shots.

During the shoot-out between G4S personnel and the robbers, a man got shot in the leg at Sasol Garage.

The driver of the G4S truck chased after a suspect who was firing at another guard and managed to shoot back.

The other robbers got away.

Paramedics were immediately on the scene and the injured man was taken to the hospital.

“It happened very fast and the other men in the grey car tried to fetch the suspect, but was too late,” said a car guard from OK Groceries.

According to an eyewitness some of the robbers fired shots with AK-47s.

Vuyile Mini Street was closed off for more than five hours so that police officers could investigate the scene.

“We will be experiencing a lot of criminal activities in the area during the festive season and the police will do their best to prevent all sorts of crime,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, communications officer of the Bethal Police Station.

The police are still investigating the robbery and no arrests were made at time of going to press.
