What to look forward to in 2016

With a new political party, named the Civic Voice, that promises to bring stability into the municipality, it is going to get interesting

It is the beginning of a new year, a leap year filled with endless possibilities and there are plenty to look forward to.

There is an extra day on the calendar this year, which means that all the bachelorettes can finally pop the question to that special someone.

Last year was an eventful year and 2016 promises to be an even better year.

The silly season is over and it is time for the pupils and students to return to school and university.

Can South African universities accommodate all the first year students who want to further their education?

This is a question on everybody’s mind right now and will the “fees must fall” campaign continue?

This campaign that began at the University of the Witwatersrand caused an uproar last year and brought many universities to a standstill.

Other issues that got people talking were when different political parties called on the president to resign.

These parties were very vocal about their thoughts and feelings, but Mr Jacob Zuma managed to find humour in everything that was said about him.

It is still uncertain whether he will resign as president of the country or continue with his duties.

The local elections are also coming up on 18 May and things might change for the better or worse.

The 2011 local elections saw the ANC secure 23 seats in the Lekwa municipal council.

The DA managed to get six seats and the PAC only got one seat.

With a new political party, named the Civic Voice, that promises to bring stability into the municipality, it is going to get interesting.

It will also be interesting to see who will win the US presidential election.

It is obvious that it is going to be a very close one between Ms Hillary Clinton and the outspoken and controversial Mr Donald Trump.

South African athletes will compete in the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil from 5 to 21 August.

This is the year where double-amputee-athletes will compete in the games.

In the London 2012 Olympics the South African team brought home six medals.

It included three gold, two silver and one bronze, hopefully they will win more this year.

The Standerton Show will be back again to entertain all the local residents.

This is a fun-filled event that takes place over three days and people are spoilt for choice.

With all of these things to look forward to, people will never run out of content on social media.
