EFF members march to municipal offices

They chanted and sang outside the municipal offices, calling on Mr Linda Dhlamini, Lekwa Mayor, to come and receive their memorandum

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members marched to the Lekwa Municipal offices to submit a memorandum with a list of grievances.

They chanted and sang outside the municipal offices, calling on Mr Linda Dhlamini, Lekwa Mayor, to receive the memo.

Mr Dhlamini is however on sick leave after being discharged from hospital recently.

A council meeting that was scheduled for 10am was adjourned for an hour due to the commotion .

The EFF read out all the demands listed in the memorandum, before handing it to Ms Maria Ntuli, ANC Ward 3 Councillor, and Ms Busi Sekhonde, ANC PR Councillor.

They demanded the municipality to respond to the memorandum within seven working days.

The protest was based on the following issues;

• Employment

• Housing

• Job Security

• Municipality’s relationship with the CCMA/NBCCI

• Sasol service providers (Hydra Arc and Mega bus)

• Project Phoenix
