Municipal workers strike

Frustrated Samwu members took to the streets.

Angry Lekwa municipal employees protested in front of the municipal offices on 10 February with a memorandum stating their demands.

These South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) members demanded that Mr Linda Dhlamini, Lekwa mayor, Ms Harriet Khota, speaker of the council and Ms Thoko Malinga, the ANC chief whip, receive their memorandum.

According to Mr Dodeni Dhlamini, Samwu member, they wanted nothing to do with the municipal management, but wanted to see politicians.

“If Mr Dhlamini, Ms Khota and Ms Malinga are not available, councilors must receive this memorandum,” Mr Dhlamini said.

He also said they would not go back to work until the politicians attend to them.
