eMZINONI – Overflowing VIP toilets are causing an unbearable stench in Extension 4.
Residents said this is also posing health hazards and blames the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
The municipality apparently last drained the toilets in 2014.
“In this heat the stench is unbearable and causes headaches.
“I can not even have visitors and we do not enjoy our food,”said a resident.
Residents said they have lost count of how many times they have reported the matter to the municipality.
“They do not care about us.
“They live in fancy houses in the town and have forgotten about us.”
Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of Marketing and Communication, said a contractor appointed by the Gert Sibande District Municipality was on site last week.
“They had a problem with their truck and promised to return this week to continue with the cleaning of the VIP toilets.
“Govan Mbeki Municipality will follow up with the contractor to find out when they will resume the cleaning of toilets in Ext 4.”
