Members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) are currently protesting outside the Lekwa municipal offices.

A memorandum listing their demands was handed over to Ms Thoko Malinga, the ANC chief whip during a previous protest on 10 February.

• A housing allowance of R350 be paid to all employees earning less than R8 000 monthly.

• The municipality gets rid of all the contractors they have appointed.

• The report of the auditor general made available.

According to Standerton Advertiser journalist, Senamile Phungula, who is currently on the scene, Samwu members said they are waiting for delegates from the Provincial Office of the ANC to address them.
