Suspect beaten by angry mob

Angry residents chased after two men who were alleged to have been found stealing from a shack.

KINROSS – Angry residents chased after two men who were allegedly stealing from a shack in Marikana in Kinross on Wednesday, 13 April.
They managed to catch one of the men and beat him, demanding that he showed them where he had stored the stolen goods.
The man finally told them that his friend asked him to help him carry the stolen goods to one of the shops and some were stored in his one room shack.
The shack was opened and some people managed to identify their stolen clothes and cell phones, among others.
The police finally managed to rescue the man and he was taken to the hospital.
One of the women on the scene said the man and his friend tried to forcefully open her shack not knowing that she was inside.
They ran away when they saw her.
They were caught trying to break into another shack when someone noticed them and whistled for community members to assist in catching them.
Acting Station Commander Percy Matlala said the alleged suspect was taken to the hospital after he was beaten by the community.
He said no case was opened as no one has come forward to lay a charge.
