Cubungu gets three life sentences
Judge says man will serve his sentences separately as the lives of the victims were taken separately.

eMBALENHLE – Lucas Cubungu (29) was sentenced in the Ermelo High Court to three life terms and 25 years for murder and assault recently.
Judge Mudawu said Cubungu will serve his sentences separately as the lives of the victims were taken separately.
Cubungu was arrested in February for stabbing and killing Mr Mzamo Mtyiwazo.
Mtyiwazo was stabbed in the chest and died on the scene in Mandela Section.
Capt Magonseni, police spokesman, said Cubungu appeared in court in March and was granted bail.
In that time he attacked and assaulted Ms Bontle Pako in Mandela Section.
“People intervened and warned him not to assault Ms Pako.
“The convict left the scene and returned later and attacked the people who stopped him from assaulting Ms Pako.
“Cubungu stabbed and killed Messrs Sifiso Mungwe and Wandile Mali.
“They sustained several stab wounds and died on the scene.
“He also stabbed Messrs Thembelani Sibisi and Sibusiso Thomo who were lucky to be alive as they were seriously injured.”
Cubungu also stabbed Messrs Zamaliphi Mabaso, Nhlanhla Khanyi and Ncedo Mtshakaca who sustained minor injuries.
Capt Nkosi praised Sgt Mthombeni for working hard.
“He worked tirelessly and arrested Cubungu three days later.
“He further successfully opposed bail and worked hard to get evidence which led to Cubungu’s conviction.
“This proofs that our police are hard at work to reduce crime in the area.”
