YCL hosts debate contest

It is also part of their Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign

The Young Communist League (YCL) organised a debating contest for local primary schools at the Thusong Centre on 23 February.

The schools included Sifisosethu Primary School, Lesedi Combined School, Igugulabasha Primary School and Lindilanga Primary School.

According to the YCL, the contest was aimed at promoting education and encouraging young people to play an active role in politics.

The YCL said it was part of their Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign which focuses on education.

They also said the campaign was managed in the first three months of each year.

Lesedi Combined School was the winner and they walked away with a trophy.

The team consisted of Kotlwano Moloi, Reabetswe Selepe and Mamello Mokoena.

Sifisosethu Primary School ended second and was also awarded a trophy.

Lebohang Zwane, Nontobeko Khanye and Lindisipho Mazibuko represented them and Lebohang Zwane was named the best learner overall.

All the learners who took part received certificates as well as their teachers.

A debating contest for secondary school learners was held on 24 February.

According to the YCL, they are looking into expanding the contest and not only hosting it locally, but regionally as well.
