Beloved teacher from Evander dies in accident

According to eyewitnesses, Ms Hand was driving towards Secunda when she apparently swerved to avoid a stationary truck, causing her vehicle to overturn.

HIGHVELD – Ms Marcia Hand (24), a teacher from TP Stratten Primary School in Evander, was killed in an accident between Evander and Secunda on Friday, 24 February.

According to eyewitnesses, Ms Hand was driving towards Secunda when she apparently swerved to avoid a stationary truck, causing her vehicle to overturn.

Paramedics from ER24 and Langamed South Ambulance Services, the police and the CPF arrived on the scene and found her vehicle on its side next to the road shortly after 5pm on Friday.

Ms Hand sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the accident scene.

According to a letter of condolences from the school, Ms Hand was a beloved teacher, full of enthusiasm and hard working.

The letter continues to say her positivity and zest for life was an example for all to see, and that she had a kind heart and a wonderful way with children.

According to Mr Mossie Ourique, principal, she will be missed and her impact on the school and education in the whole province will be remembered.

“She only worked at TP Stratten since the beginning of the year, but she had already become part of the family.”

The school also expressed its condolences towards her husband and family.
