Luthando owns a grocery shopping business

He said to most people, grocery is something that has been ignored because it is a painful remainder of how expensive food has become.

SECUNDA – Mr Luthando Nondumo found passion in a business which most people never thought of.

He loves grocery shopping, but noticed his wife hates to spend hours at the mall doing shopping and realised she was not alone.

Mr Nondumo’s online grocery shopping and delivery business is aimed at helping those who are too busy to do their own grocery shopping, as well as those who home-bound, such as the elderly or those with health problems or handicaps that prevent even a simple trip to the grocery store.

He said some people have small children and find it difficult to go shopping with them.

“All customers must do, is to go onto the website and register.

“I am also working on introducing an application that people can download onto their smart phones that will make it easier for them, because they will not have to log into the website all the time,” said Mr Nondumo, founder of Pricemakers (Pty) Ltd.

The application will also have a grocery price scanning system to help customers know how much they will spend on their groceries.

Mr Nondumo’s business is already operating and he noticed that for most of his clients, the groceries cost the same every month.

“Most people throw away their slips after buying groceries, but our service will help them to track their wastage and start realising the benefits of saving.

“People should begin saving on groceries, because it is the highest consumer of your salary for those who do not have a bond and car to pay, and for those paying a bond and a car, it is the third highest consumer,” Mr Nondumo elaborated.

He added that food prices do not discriminate according to one’s income and that low and high earners pay the same amount for food items.

Mr Nondumo further mentioned that some families even save on petrol and time and will get rid of the behaviour of getting into the shop to buy one peanut butter and end up buying 10 items for which they did not budget.

He over emphasized that they are just a service provider, not a seller of products.

His company will also create more jobs, especially in townships.

When asked how the elderly who are not familiar with using smart phone applications will be able to use his service, he said: “We also have printed copies of the list of groceries to accommodate those who are not able to use the application and website.

They also have different payment methods, such as EFT, Pay Gate and Speed Point.

Mr Nondumo invited those who have grocery clubs and stokvels, to approach him so he can do a presentation on how he can assist them to have better benefits and also eliminate the red tape associated with township grocery clubs.

He urged people to be patient as his website is still under construction after they had experienced problems.

It will be up and running again on 14 March.
