EVANDER – Last Friday was an exciting day for Mr Johan (Kappie) Kapp and his friends when he received his new Shoprider.
The idea of getting Mr Kapp a Shoprider was inspired during the male teachers’s reunion held at Laerskool Hoëveld last year.
The reunion was for all the men teachers who taught at the school during the early 1990s.
Mr Nelis Stroebel, currently a teacher at High School Evander, said while all the men were having fun and walking around at the reunion, he realised Mr Kapp was sitting in a wheelchair and could not easily move around.
Mr Johan Kapp, a teacher at TP Stratten Primary School, was involved in an accident which left him paralysed and become wheelchair bound.
“I spoke with some of the teachers and asked them whether we could not do something for him,” said Mr Stroebel.
The men later began to shop around and made contact with a company that makes Shopriders.
Several schools helped to raise money for Mr Kapp’s Shoprider.
Ms Marietha Cole, Laerskool Secunda principal, said when she informed the learners at her school that they were raising money for the TP Stratten Primary School teacher to get a new set of wheels, they got excited and began to help to raise money.
Mr Kapp thanked his wife, Ms Beatrix Kapp, for taking care of him for nearly 15 years.
