Locals not happy with unspent budget
About 12 million Rand will be returned to treasury.
HIGHVELD – About R12-m that was budgeted for the upgrading of the Kinross Waste Water Treatment Works and Pump Station might be returned to the treasury after it was not used.
Govan Mbeki Municipality said legal opinion is needed before the project can resume.
Ms Thokizile Zulu, director of Community Services, said at the Gert Sibande District Municipality’s strategic planning meeting for Govan Mbeki Municipality the money was not used when she tabled the Municipal Infrastructure Grant report.
She said the treatment works have been upgraded up to 60 per cent and about R5-m of the R14-m budget had been spent.
The conversion of VIP to waterborne toilets in Ext 6 and 10 in eMzinoni has been completed 20 per cent and about R6-m of the R8-m budget had been spent.
The water reticulation in the same area is 20 per cent into its completion and R2.8-m of the R3.3-m budget had been spent.
The construction of the sanitation infrastructure of Ext 25 is 60 per cent into completion and half of the R8-m budget had been spent.
The installation of 25 boreholes with windmills in the municipal rural areas has been completed and about R4.5-m was spent.
The sewer reticulation network in Ext 18 in eMbalenhle is 80 completed and about R2-m of the budg had been spent.
The attendees of the strategic planning were not pleased with some of the figures, however Mr Joshua Nkosi, speaker for the Gert Sibande District Municipality, said the meeting was a consultation and some things will be dealt with on an appropriate platform.
