GMM calls for a green evolution

The Govan Mbeki Municipality hopes to engage with residents and business owners to promote ecologically sound developments.

HIGHVELD – In a recent press release, Mr Bheki Kubheka, spokesman for Govan Mbeki Municipality, expressed the municipality’s desire to work with businesses and residents to partner with the municipality by showcasing all their green initiatives.

These include the use of solar or alternative energy, the re-use of waste water, the recycling of waste and the development of green buildings, among others.

“By knowing where and who those businesses are, we can all learn from them and encourage others to do the same.

“We are encouraging the community to join hands to beautify our towns and to keep them clean and safe.

“Projects that the community can take ownership of and be involved in, include that you adopt a specific area or spot such as the Duck Pond, an entrance to town or an open space in your neighbourhood.

“The community takes ownership of the park or area by cleaning and maintaining it with the support of the municipality.”

Interested parties, youth groups and community groups who are interested in joining hands with the municipality, can contact the municipality at 017 620 6316 or 017 620 6319.
