eMbalenhle couple found dead in bed when friend investigates

Police suspect man and woman died when they inhaled toxic fumes while sleeping.

The couple was found dead in an RDP house in Ext 12 in eMbalenhle on Sunday, 4 June.

According to the police, the bodies were discovered by a friend who went to the house because he did not see his friend at work for a while.

He noticed it was too quite and suspected something was wrong.

He broke a door to gain entry and found the couple dead in their bed.

Police were summoned to the scene.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said they found a brazier in the room where the couple was found.

A brazier is a makeshift coal stove made out of a large tin with holes in the side and is designed to burn for a long time.

The cause of death is still unknown, but the police suspect the couple might have died when they inhaled toxic fumes.

He urged residents to be extra careful when they use a brazier or a heater.

Capt Nkosi encouraged locals to rather use a brazier outside to avoid inhaling deadly carbon monoxide.
