As winter has begun and the weather becomes colder, many people in the township depend on an imbawula to heat their homes.
Though it fights the cold, it can pose a hazard to one’s health as it releases toxic fumes, namely carbon monoxide, when burning.
Police urge residents to be cautious when they use an imbawula and to avoid putting it inside their houses because it can lead to fatalities.
Many fatalities are reported in the winter.
Seriously consider the dangers around it and educate children about its dangers.
Most shack dwellers use it to keep warm and for cooking.
