The Mpumalanga Department of Education urges principals to admit learners

The Mpumalanga Department of Education urged parents whose children did not get space at a school, to contact their circuit offices.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education urged parents whose children did not get space at a school, to contact their circuit offices.

This came after a number of parents registered their children late.

Mr Jasper Zwane, communication officer of the department, said parents should not panic.

“If parents are facing problems at schools, they must go to the Education Department’s district office in their area.

“Officials there will assist you to find placement at the next available school.

“Late registrations are managed by the district of¿ ce which consults with school principals in that area.

“Despite the parents being at fault for late registration, it is the Department of Education’s responsibility to ensure that every child of school-going age is in school.”

Mr Zwane called on principals to cooperate with parents and to help them.

Members of Parliament, provincial legislature, councillors, officials from the Department of Education and Govan Mbeki Municipality visited various local secondary schools in the area to monitor whether teaching and learning were taking place on the first day of school on 17 January.

Learners were encouraged to focus on education to uplift themselves and their communities.
