Residents living on the plots at Bethal were without electricity for the whole Friday, 9 February after 10m of cables were stolen on Friday morning at 2.20am.
There were no cables in stock and Govan Mbeki Municipality had to order it.
According to Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA Councillor, who kept residents informed about the electricity situation, these cables cost about R6 000 per meter.
The electricity was restored at about 6pm on Friday after municipal workers repaired the cables with a thinner type of cable.
Ms Fourie said it will be repaired with the right cable when it arrives.
Electricity was off again for more than four hours in various parts of Bethal on Sunday afternoon.
The reason for this power failure is unknown.
