Municipal Manager put on special leave
Ms Mhlongo-Ntshangase was put on special leave and the decision about the mayor will be made on Saturday.
The provincial executive committee of the ANC met local business forums in the municipal chamber on 15 March to decide among others on the future of both the Municipal Manager and Executive Mayor.
Rampant corruption and maladministration by Ms Gugulethu Mhlongo-Ntshangase (MM) were alleged and Mr Linda Dhlamini’s (EM) involvement questioned at protests since early March.
Ms Mhlongo-Ntshangase was put on special leave and the decision about the mayor will be made on Saturday.
When the Standerton Advertiser asked Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager of the Lekwa Municipality, for confirmation of the above, she referred the query to the regional office of the ANC.
The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) had a meeting in the Standerton Town Hall on the same day as well and buses and taxis brought supporters along.
A police presence ensured calm.
A follow-up meeting will be held on Monday, 19 March to discuss matters further.
