Boy’s attackers are still at large

SECUNDA – Ethan Venter (15) and his parents are still searching for answers as to why people had robbed and tried to abduct him on 4 March.
Ethan sustained several injuries during his scuffle with his robbers, but he is on the mend. The worst of his injuries is a deep wound to his left knee cap, but even this is healing.
The attack happened on the Sunday afternoon in Generaal de Wet Street.
He is thankful that his little brother was not with him when he was attacked.
Ethan was walking home from the shop at the Reddige Plaza (Palms) at about 4.40pm when he noticed he was being tailed by an emerald green VW Polo. He was within a stone’s throw from his home, when the three men in the Polo pulled up behind him.
The man in the back seat jumped out, tackled Ethan to the ground and wrestled him for his cell phone. The passenger in the front grabbed him and tried to pull him into the vehicle while the robber jumped into the back seat. Both men then clung to the teen while the driver stepped on the petrol.
Ethan resisted his abductors by clinging to the door-frame of the car. He was dragged for about 100m before they eventually let go of him. He flagged down a white Golf and asked the driver to chase after the Polo.
“We now believe this person was working with the people who attacked Ethan,” said Ms Chantal Venter, Ethan’s mother. She based this on a woman’s post on the Safer Evander Facebook page about an incident in front of her house during which coloured men were parked outside her home for a very long time before she confronted them.
They became aggressive towards her. As they left, a second car appeared and followed them.
Ethan described his assailants as coloured men in their 20’s. They are all slim and the driver has a goatee. No one has yet been apprehended and tip offs from the public led to dead ends.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspects, can contact the Secunda Police Station at 017 624 2000.
