Lekwa waits for interim mayor

Local business people alleged gross corruption and maladministration the week prior and protested outside the municipal offices.

The Lekwa Municipality is still waiting for the arrival of an interim Mayor and Municipal Manager.

The former Mayor, Mr Linda Dhlamini, was recalled by the ANC Regional Executive Committee on 18 March.

Ms Busi Sikhonde was tipped to take over as interim Mayor until a permanent Mayor was decided upon.

No time-frame was given for the decision.

Municipal Manager, Ms Gugu Mhlongo-Ntshangase, was put on special leave on 15 March.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) was supposed to facilitate the deployment of a new Municipal Manager.
