Cyclist knocked off bike, dies

The cyclist lived in Kinross and was on his way home at about 5pm when the car crashed into him.

SECUNDA – A cyclist was killed on impact on 11 March when he was hit by a car near the water reservoirs between Trichardt and Kinross.

According to Capt Bettina Zondo, the cyclist was working at a woodwork shop near the accident scene. He lived in Kinross and was on his way home at about 5pm when the car crashed into him.

It appears that the cyclist was crossing the road seconds before the accident, possibly trying to reach a less rugged terrain on which to cycle.

Capt Zondo urged cyclists and motorists to be vigilant and to watch out for one another.

“Make sure it is clear when you cross the road on your bicycle. Beware of the oncoming traffic from all angles. Motorists, be more courteous towards cyclists by giving them space on the road surface in areas where the roadside is too rugged.”
