Kasselman provides safety tips when going on holiday

Do not leave notes on the door, underneath the doormat or in the post box to indicate that you are away.

Kasselman Security Services (KSS) provided the following security tips when going away on holiday:

• Inform their control room (account must be paid up to date).

• Test the alarm system, if your alarm is faulty, do not leave it up to the last minute to request a technician to come out and check the system.

• Inform their control room of any additional key-holders staying in your area.

• Suspend newspaper and magazine deliveries and ask someone to regularly clear out your postbox.

• Ensure that doors/windows are locked/closed to avoid false alarms and for safety reasons. Burglar bar/gates must be locked/intact.

• Ensure that your house-sitter knows how to operate the alarm system.

• Don’t advertise that you are going away.

• Preferably pack your luggage into your vehicle behind closed garage doors.

• Do not leave notes on the door, underneath the doormat or in the post box to indicate that you are away.

• Provide a key for KSS or leave a key with a key-holder so that the armed reaction can gain entry to premises.

• Cut trees/brushes away from alarm beams.

• If electricity goes off, make sure it is restored to prevent alarm from not working or food from spoiling.
