According to the police, the suspects between the age of 24 and 40, robbed the victims of R20 000 and their cell phones.

One of the victims managed to call the police on her other phone. The police responded swiftly and arrested the suspects who were walking along the N11 after a local farmer had tipped off the police.

Breyten Police’s spokesman, Sgt Shadrack Mashegoane, said the suspects used a white Toyota Atios with no registration number to get away, but the driver lost control of it and it overturned on the Kromskrans road.

“We arrested three suspects and recovered R3 000, as well as cell phones that were identified by the victims to be theirs,” Sgt Mashegoane said.

The suspects appeared in the Ermelo MAgistrate’s Court on 3 March and the case was postponed and moved to  Breyten.

Sgt Mashegoane appealed to the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the fourth suspect who is still at large.

“We would like to urge the community to be always vigilant and cautious at all times and avoid carrying large sums of money.”
