Mayflower police are investigating a case of possession of drugs after a bakkie containing marijuana was stopped at Waverly and Dundonald road near Dludlu Transport in Redhill, on Monday.

Mayflower police are investigating a case of possession of drugs after a bakkie containing marijuana was stopped at the Waverly and Dundonald Roads intersection near Dludlu Transport in Redhill, on Monday, 16 April about 7.20am.

They stopped the vehicle and found the driver, travelling alone.

“They introduced themselves to the driver and asked permission to search the vehicle to which the driver agreed,” said police spokesman, Const Tryphina Utla.

She also that while the officers were searching the trailer, the driver fled to the nearest houses and was not found.

“Police found 37 rolls of marijuana wrapped with a brown tape, weighing 98kg with a street value of R147 000.”

The vehicle was taken to Mayflower police with the merchandise and a case docket was opened.

The case is still under investigation and the suspect is at large.
